Admissions criteria for Freshford Church School 2019 – 2020

For this academic year we are following the B&NES Primary Admissions Criteria for Community & Voluntary Controlled Schools

Our Local Governing Board has now reviewed the Admission arrangements for the school for the academic year 2020/2021. We are currently reviewing admission arrangements for September 2021 and in accordance with statutory requirements we shall be sending these out for public consultation later during the autumn term 2019.

*If you are still seeking a Reception place for your child in September 2019 please contact B&NES Admissions as soon as possible : B&NES Admissions

Currently the Admission Arrangements previously published by Bath & North East Somerset Local Authority will continue to apply. In the event of more applications being received at any one time than places being available, the following oversubscription criteria will be used to prioritise admission applications between 1 March 2018 and 31 August 2020

Children in Public care (Looked after Children) or a child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, residence, or special guardianship order.

(The 3 categories in this criterion will be given equal consideration)
• Children who live within a 1.5 mile radius* of the school and for whom there will be a sibling in attendance on the admission date at the preferred school.
• Children who live outside a 1.5 mile radius* of the school but their sibling was offered a place prior to September 2013 and will be in attendance at the time of admission.
• Children who live outside a 1.5 mile radius* of the school but it is their closest school and for whom there will be a sibling in attendance on the admission date at the preferred school.

Children who live closest to the school as measured in a direct line.

To be considered under the above criteria, parents must have named the school as a preference. Under the above criteria all preferences are considered equally. If a child qualifies for more than one school they will be offered their highest preference as stated on their application form.

  • The 1.5 mile radius will be measured from the ‘address point’ of a school as defined by the Local Land & Property Gazetter (LLPG).

In all cases, distances will be measured in a direct line from the address point of the child’s home address to the address point of a school as defined by the Local Land & Property Gazetter (LLPG). Measurements will be determined using the Local Authority’s GIS computerised mapping system.

If under all the above criteria any single category resulted in oversubscription, those living closer to the preferred school would receive the higher priority.

In the event of the school being oversubscribed where the applicant for the final qualifying place(s) available within the admission number is the parent/carer of twins, triplets or other multiple births the authority will breach the admission number to allow these children to be offered places.

In the case of schools where there would be Infant Class Size issues such children will remain as an ‘excepted pupil’ to the class size limit for the time they are in an infant class or until the class numbers fall back to the normal class size limit of 30.

For the academic year 2020 / 2021 we shall follow the B&NES admissions criteria for a further year.

If you wish to refer to the 2014 School Admissions Code and 2012 School Admission Appeals Code, these can be found further down this page.

We are always happy to welcome families who are looking for a school for their child and fully appreciate that this is one of the most important decisions you will make. We enjoy meeting you and sharing with you the ethos of our school.

We hold two Open Mornings during the year, dates of which are shown on the website as soon as they are known. You will have the opportunity of seeing the school during a typical working morning and our Yr. 6 children will take you on a personal guided tour. Andrew Wishart, Headteacher, will then explain more about our philosophy and how our approach to education has evolved.

Should you live in another county any application for a Reception place will have to be made via your home Admissions Authority.
