The Temporary Closure of Freshford Church School

Dear Parents and Carers,

After much thought and with deep regret we have taken the decision that we have to close our school. This is due to the high proportion of our staff required to self-isolate. There is an additional concern that we a have a cluster of children’s families self-isolating because of symptoms in their children attending this school.

We shall be closing school at the end of the day today until the end of next week, when we will review the staffing situation to determine whether or not we can open again on the following Monday (30th March).

Because of the cluster of recent symptoms in children at our school we will be deep cleaning the school as soon as possible and I have agreed (on Friday) to discuss with my line managers whether or not we can, next week, fulfil our wish to offer a limited child care provision, during the school day, for those of our parents who would describe themselves as holding jobs that are very much ‘frontline’, including, for example, those working for the NHS, as care-workers, in food supply, or in emergency services essential to maintaining the ‘fight’ against Covid-19.

This decision has not been taken lightly and is deemed to be in the best interests of maintaining the good health of all children, staff and parents in the current climate of uncertainty.

I apologise for the delay in releasing a formal communication: there has been a long period of essential consultation, including with the Department for Education.

Please make the guidance, ambitions and spirit of the crucial letter that we sent out last night, ‘Learning Together When Our School Closes’ part of a daily routine that works for your family.

We shall of course keep you fully informed.

Yours sincerely,
Andrew Wishart
